ShopFax's
features make it possible to have the right part, in the right
place, at the right time, with the right maintenance people doing
the right preventive maintenance, at the lowest possible cost.
ShopFax uses the best of today's computer technology. Current,
low cost data storage devices now make it economically feasible
to store, access, and use the vast amount of data for the thousands
of parts which make up a single unit of equipment.
But, it is more than technology; it is the maintenance knowledge
behind the software that runs on the computer. Our people are
a combination of experienced maintenance and computer professionals.
They have spent many years building the industry's leading maintenance
systems and have incorporated critical standards such as VMRS.
VMRS is the American Trucking Association's standard parts coding
convention which now is the industry standard.
With the entry of an equipment ID, ShopFax creates a work order
for that unit. ShopFax tells the mechanic every preventive maintenance
operation that needs to be performed. When a specific system is
identified; for example, a transmission, ShopFax then can:
| 1. |
Provide
a full maintenance history. |
| 2. |
Identify
each part currently on the unit. |
| 3. |
Identify
preventive maintenance items that should be performed while
the unit is in the shop. |
Bar coding
technology makes it possible to record data accurately. Mechanics
scan the bar code of the employee ID, the work order, parts and
the system. ShopFax automatically records time, date, equipment
number, mechanic, and other data such as system worked on, etc.
Then, when the mechanic takes parts from inventory and scans them,
ShopFax charges the parts to the work order, updates inventory,
and provides the data for proper inventory accounting. It even
checks for errors. An exception report shows such errors as, "He
was working on a transmission and checked out a fan belt."
